GTbyCITROEN

The design of GTbyCITROEN reflects a quest for optimal aerodynamic design. The show-car is a vehicle of flowing, taut lines, stretched to the extreme. GTbyCITROËN is a style replica of a vehicle from the digital world. The car is the result of a partnership between Citroën and Polyphony, designer of the driving simulation game Gran Turismo 5 on Playstation 3.The two-seater GTbyCITROEN is designed to inspire speed and power, with an oversized rear-end, dynamic styling, sculpted lines and sharp graphics.The cabin of GTbyCITROEN,
designed to seat two adults, expresses the grand touring vision behind this show-car. The on-board ambience allies premium, extensively worked materials with a more high-tech effect for the driving position. Although I highly doubt that the new GTbyCITROEN Concept will ever make into the real world. Looking beyond its taut, dynamic lines, this racing car features innovative equipment such as enlarged air intakes at the front, a flat underside, and a mobile spoiler and air diffuser at the rear.

Technology

GTbyCITROENThe cabin of GTbyCITROËN, designed to seat two adults, expresses the grand touring vision behind this show-car. The on-board ambience allies premium, extensively worked materials with a more high-tech effect for the driving position.
The layout of the low driving position was dictated by driving pleasure. The aim is for the driver to be able to concentrate on the road, assisted by a head-up display clearly displaying driving information.To promote maximum concentration, the driver of GTbyCITROEN has a head-up display for driving information. Using red LEDs, this system projects key driving information – such as speed and navigation data – onto the windscreen in the driver's direct line of vision. The mid-engine concept measures 4.96m in length, 2.08m in length, and only 1.09m in height, being about half a meter longer and ten centimeters wider than the famous Bugatti Veyron. It is about 10cm lower, though.



Peugeot RC HYmotion4

The RC Hymotion4hybrid can run in fully-electric mode. Peugeot promises a potential maximum power output of 318bhp, yet carbon dioxide emissions of just 109g/km on the combined cycle.According to Peugeot it is a ‘Touring Car Coupe’ that features a number of engineering and technological ideas expected to make their way into the carmaker’s future production models.Weight is a key factor in the dynamic and environmental efficiency of any vehicle. The RC HYmotion4 has therefore been designed to optimise this parameter. Its structure thus comprises a "space-frame" type aluminium body ensuring overall lightness and rigidity, to which are fi tted the mechanical assemblies and the suspension. Inside the Peugeot RC HYmotion4 concept are four individual seats. The predominantly black interior is subtly highlighted with blue lighting and trim elements.


Technology

It features a 1.6-litre THP petrol engine with a power output of 160kW (218bhp) located at the rear of the vehicle, combined with a 70kW (95bhp) electric motor under the bonnet.The end result is a maximum power of 230 kW (313 bhp), ensuring high levels of driving pleasure, combined with CO2 emissions in the combined cycle of only 109 g/km, or zero in electric only drive mode. Another major innovation made possible by the design is the vehicle's four-wheel drive system, which directly benefi ts road holding and therefore safety.Despite this efficiency, the RC Hymotion4 is claimed to be able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.4 seconds and move from 80-120km/h in 3.0 seconds flat.

The Automobile of the Future

Scientists are increasingly concerned about both the long and short-term effects of air pollution.
The short-term effects include eye, nose and throat irritations, headaches, nausea, and respiratory infections. Among the long term illnesses related to air pollution are lung cancer, emphysema and heart disease.
Air pollution is not new. In 1273 King Edward 1 enacted a law prohibiting the burning of a certain type of coal. This was an offense punishable by death and violators risked losing their heads.
Today, industries and automobiles are the major sources of air pollution. This pollution, which hovers above urban areas, is called smog. Automobiles contribute 1/3 of the substances polluting our air. Primary pollutants emitted from automobiles are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
When the automobile expels exhaust, the exhaust combines with air and sunlight to produce ground level ozone. The ozone then reacts with the exhaust, forming smog.
In 1998, according to statistics collected by the United States Department of Transportation, Americans drove 2.6 trillion miles. Passenger vehicle miles accounted for over 90% of the
total mileage.
Today, in the United States, vehicle emissions are regulated under the authority of the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA). Since car exhaust is a primary source of pollutants such
as nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons, vehicles are required to be equipped with emission reducing devices such as catalytic converters. The catalytic converter has a material within that brings about a chemical reaction changing the exhaust emissions into less harmful substances.
However these devices reduce emissions but do not totally eliminate them. The current goal is to have zero emission vehicles, that is a vehicle, which has no tailpipe emissions, no emission control systems capable of breaking down and no gasoline emissions. Several states have adopted zero emission vehicle programs, which require that future vehicles sold in the state be ZEVs.
Major automakers are now developing ZEV's such as electric vehicles, and hydrogen fueled vehicles. The programs also include partial zero-emission vehicles such as hybrid-electric cars and methanol fuel cell powered cars.
The internal combustion engine that is used in most vehicles has only ten percent efficiency. The engine design has seen little change since 1900. And since gasoline prices were low for many years, there was little demand for fuel-efficient vehicles and little motivation to give up the
gasoline powered internal combustion engine.
By contrast, hydrogen powered fuel cells are 60% efficient and do not release pollutants. Our space shuttles have been powered by fuel cells for many years. The price of gasoline has risen
astronomically creating a climate for radical change.
Hybrid cars are appearing on the market. Although these cards do use a small gasoline engine, they are also equipped with an electric motor to deliver extra power when needed.
Electric vehicles are also available and automakers are working on advanced batteries. Vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel are in the developmental stage. Incentives are being offered by city
and state governments to encourage the use of these alternative vehicles. For example, the City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power offers discounts on electricity used to recharge
electric vehicles.
As fuel prices rise, and the pollution problem escalates, the auto industry is now serious about developing alternative vehicles so the car of our future may differ dramatically from the car we have now.
